François Bar, Francis Pisani and Mathew Weber are working on a project about “Mobile technology appropriation”.  A post in their blog has caught my attention: it shows different ways people from France and Spain appropriate their mobile phones by using a different and original vocabulary.

It’s quite strange how they all create expressions that have apparently nothing to do with cellphones, and how specially the French put English expressions in the middle of their phrases, as if it came out of nowhere. Well, I have some contact with french langage and I can say people actually use these expressions day by day.

Here in Brazil, there are not many of these “naming apprpriation”. We simply use words such as “me liga” (call me), “mandar SMSs” (to send SMSs), “tirar fotos” (take pictures), “fazer filmes” (make films). I guess the most original of them are “Me dá um toque”, which means blitteraly “Give me a touch”,
